City of Sandusky East Coastline

History of Battery Park

In 1983, Battery Park and the marina were dilapidated. The City of Sandusky sought proposals for redeveloping Battery Park.

The Pheiffer Family submitted the winning proposal and work began in 1984. A long term lease with the City of Sandusky was signed in 1985.

The improvements included some of the first floating docks on Sandusky Bay and Lake Erie’s north shoreline. A fuel pier was built including a sanitary pumpout station. A pavilion in the park and shower and restroom facilities were created for the dockholders. Public restrooms were also made available. A pool for the boaters was built about 10 years later. Public tennis courts were built on the south end of the leasehold property.

A Marina Center was built on the west side of the facility. It includes the business office, a retail store, shower and restroom facilities, a laundry area and a second floor restaurant which showcases the view of the beautiful waterway.

Thirty years later, the Pheiffer family continues to support the marina business. Continued upgrades, whether structural or cosmetic, are ongoing.

The comfort and enjoyment of the marina customers and guests motivates us to become better every day. We strive to have the cleanest restrooms on Lake Erie and to be the friendliest staff possible.
